Renowned Gaelic singers Gillebride MacMillan, Mairi Macmillan and Mairi Morrison will appear alongside the Kinnaris Quintet to present a collection of traditional Gaelic songs and original compositions exploring themes of migration, both historic and contemporary.
This unique performance marks the 100th anniversary of the sailing of the Metagama from Stornoway, transporting impoverished islanders to Canada and America in search of a new life. The separation of families and the exodus of so many young islanders left an enduring mark on the Hebridean psyche and resonates with the plight of modern day migrants.
This is Kinnaris Quintet’s only Glasgow appearance arranged for this year.
Bidh na seinneadairean cliùiteach Gàidhlig, Gillebride MacIlleMhaoil, Màiri NicIlleMhaoil agus Màiri NicIlleMhoire, a’ nochdadh còmhla ris a’ Chòigead Kinnaris gus cruinneachadh de dh’òrain Ghàidhlig thraidiseanta agus òrain ùra a thaisbeanadh, a tha a’ rannsachadh chuspairean co-cheangailte ri imrich, an dà chuid eachdraidheil agus co-aimsireil.
Tha an gnìomhadh gun choimeas seo a’ comharrachadh a’ 100mh ceann-bliadhna de sheòladh a’ Mhetagama à Steòrnabhagh, ’s i a’ giùlain eileanaich bhochda a Chanada agus a dh’Aimeireaga a shireadh beatha ùir. Dh’fhàg sgaradh theaghlaichean agus às-imrich den a leithid de dh’eileanaich òga, comharra maireannach air aigne nan eileanach a tha co-fhaireachdainneil ri cor luchd-imrich an latha an-diugh.
Is e seo an t-aon tachartas a-mhàin a tha air a chur an òrdugh don Kinnaris Quintet ann an Glaschu am-bliadhna.
